The National Cyber Security Policy has been approved by the Cabinet

According to Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry, the federal cabinet adopted the first-ever National Cyber Security Policy on Tuesday, because the government prepared to start a comprehensive probe into the Pegasus espionage scandal.

At a post-meeting press conference , Chaudhry claimed an inventory of cyber security specialists was being compiled who would conduct a radical investigation, particularly into India’s use of Israeli spyware to hack Prime Minister Imran Khan’s phone.

“We want to undertake a radical inquiry in order that we will share our findings with the UN,” Chaudhry explained. “We feel that this plan to pay attention to Pakistani officials may be a criminal act; a world criminal act,” he stated.

He went on to mention that Pakistan would also share the report with the acceptable authorities. The communications minister told reporters, “We believe and hope that the United Nations would take action thereon .”

The minister explained that the National Cyber Security Policy would be divided into two parts: Cyber security and cyber offences.

He went on to announce that the cupboard had also approved the government’s digital media advertisements policy, stating that the govt will henceforth sanction digital media advertisements.

The ministers also approved a spectrum auction for next-generation mobile services, consistent with Chaudhry.

Separately, the Board of Investments was asked to submit legislation to help eliminate outdated laws and take substantive actions to enhance the country’s simple doing business, he added.

The prime minister told the cupboard meeting that there should be agreement between the govt and therefore the opposition on a minimum of a couple of fundamental topics of national importance, with the staging of “transparent elections” being one among them, consistent with Chaudhry.
